Several years ago, we went to Rome and rented a small apartment that happened to have an absolutely spectacular double rooftop terrace that overlooked the Borgese Gardens, the Villa Julia and the Vatican in the distance.
They had Pomegranates, Olives, oranges, lemons, limes, and all kinds of flowers and succulents growing on this 6th floor deck. We were in a rather posh section of town, just outside the Piazza del Popolo on the Via Flaminia. This was nearly on the banks of the Tiber as well. We were there a month. Sandy had joined us for some of that time. She stayed in a hotel off the Corso and had a chance to connect with some relatives that lived in Palombara Sabina, about an hour from the city. We traveled to Monaco and the big tourist attractions along the way: Portofino, Santa Margherita Ligure, Sesto Levante, Pisa, Siena and San Gimignano.
This is the look that John always likes best for himself...cute eh? This is the spiral staircase that went from the big terrace of our apartment, to the little Crows Nest seating area at the top...Il Nido.
